The Mathematics Department providing education under the roof of Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Arts and Sciences Faculty holds the reputation for competing with the world leading universities and being TRNC’s strongest mathematics department that educates students who can provide their country and the world educational, research and public services at international standards. The Department’s staff who possesses in-depth experience, was educated in the world’s most reputable universities and has published many books and academic papers.
The education provided to students in Mathematics Department is supported with technical equipment, advanced computer laboratories, as well as internet and a rich library that provides advanced research opportunities. Also, the department’s social system allows the student and academician to create one-on-one dialogues that creates an environment where students can consult academicians considering their problems.
Next to their mandatory mathematics and computer classes, undergraduate students who study at Mathematics and Computer Sciences program may take three elective and three core courses for completing minor programs from Economy and Finance Departments. In case they succeed in these classes, they will earn to receive minor certificate related to the areas of Administrative Economics and Finance Management.
Mathematics Department includes undergraduate program for Mathematics and Computer Sciences, as well as two PhD and three graduate programs in the areas of Practical Mathematics and Computer Sciences and Mathematics and Informatics. EMU Mathematics Department Chair Prof. Dr. Nazım Mahmudov stated that they graduated 500 students from their Mathematics Department undergraduate program, 200 students from graduate program and 60 students from PhD program.
Prof. Dr. Mahmudov underlined that most of the graduates hold important positions and works for important world leading institutions such as: Apple, Fujitsu Technology Solutions, FIT Solutions, State University of New York at Buffalo (USA), Massey University (New Zeland), Florida State University (USA), TU-Berlin (Germany), Middlesex University (England), Islamic University of Gaza (Palestine). Prof. Dr. Mahmudov also mentioned that their graduates work in the Turkish Republic and Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) universities, as well as some high schools and private institutions in TRNC.
