University of Pau and Pays De L’adour (France) and Eastern Mediterranean University (North Cyprus) collaborate in establishing a Dual Degree Master’s Program agreement for Mathematics (MM) on the part of Eastern Mediterranean University and Mathematical Modelling and Simulation (MMS) on the part of University of Pau and Pays De L’adour
Selection, Acceptance and Admission of Students
- To be accepted into the second part of the Dual Degree Master’s Program (M2 MMS), students from EMU are required to have completed the first part of the Dual Degree Master’s Program (M1 MM) delivered at EMU including two UPPA courses, which are Introduction to Partial Differential Equations (PDE The selection of EMU students involved in the Dual Degree Master’s Program in M1 MM & M2 MMS will be made by an Ad Hoc Committee jointly composed by EMU and UPPA members.
- Students from EMU should satisfy the B2 level requirements in English language by getting an English Proficiency Certificate (see Appendix III - English Language Requirement).
- The maximum quota for Master’s students involved is eight in each year of this Dual degree program.
- Numerical Simulation/Scientific computing 1. These courses will be taught at EMU and/or delivered fully/partially online by UPPA faculty members. The students will attend the remaining courses of the Dual Degree Master’s program at UPPA which corresponds to the 1st and 2nd semester of M2 MMS at UPPA.

The table below shows the English Language Tests recognized by EMU and the minimum scores required for exemption from English language courses. Prospective students are advised to contact the relevant academic department for further additional rules and regulations

Tuition Fees
EMU students enrolled in the Dual Degree Master’s program set out in this agreement will fulfill the first part (M1 MM) of the Dual Degree Master’s program at EMU and will pay the tuition fees of EMU including all the other expenses for that year to EMU, and they will not be required to pay any fees to UPPA. If these students are accepted into their second part of the Dual Degree Master’s program (M2 MMS), they will complete this second part at UPPA and will pay the tuition fees and all the other expenses of UPPA only to UPPA for that part and they will not be required to pay any fees to EMU.
Before their arrival, EMU Students will be required to have their own health and travel insurance that will cover them for the entire duration of their stay, including repatriation. They must also take out civil liability insurance for the duration of their stay.
Internship or Thesis Option
In order for the students to fulfill the Masters in Mathematics program delivered by EMU in the first part of the Dual Degree Master’s program part at EMU and receive their EMU diploma, they are required to satisfy all the requirements including the defense of their theses, which will be supervised by one member from EMU and preferably one member from UPPA as co-supervisor.
In order for students to fulfill the M2 MMS part of the Dual Degree Master’s program at UPPA, they are required to embark on an internship or write a Master’s thesis in semester 2 of this program.
Thesis Option
The thesis will be supervised by one member from UPPA and preferably one member from EMU as co-supervisor.
Internship Option
- Students from both universities are required to do an internship during semester four of the Dual Degree Master’s program (M2 MMS) if they did not choose thesis option.
- The annual number of students participating in field practices (internship) is maximum 8 persons.
- In the framework of these field practices, the students will be responsible for their own accommodation and food expenses.
- According to the student’s available financial resources, the internship may last for at most 4 months. The length of the internship shall be specified before the student’s arrival.
- Language requirements for internship: no compulsory language requirement is necessary but some knowledge of English for French students and some knowledge of French for students from EMU will be required.
The internship or the Master’s thesis will be subject to a defense in front of a jury including both members of EMU and UPPA-LMAP (face to face and/or with the help of video-conference device).
Conditions for Obtaining the Dual Master’s degree
In order to be awarded their Dual Degree Master’s certificate, the students will have to be registered in both universities for the two years of this Dual Degree Master’s program.
To obtain the Dual Degree, the students will have to complete the two parts of his/her Dual Degree Master’s program as follows:
- 1st part: Mathematics Master Program (M1 MM) at EMU
- 2nd part: Master of Mathematical Modelling and Simulation (M2 MMS) at UPPA
Completing the first part of this Dual Degree Master’s program at EMU, EMU will award the first diploma (M.Sc. in Mathematics). After completing the second part of this program at UPPA, they will receive the Master MMS diploma from UPPA. In addition to this, once the students have completed the Dual Degree Master’s program they will be awarded a symbolic certificate carrying both universities’ logos prepared with both universities’ collaboration.
